As you can figure out by my name, I love monkeys! The book's rhyme was catchy and was more than simply counting from one to ten as it told a story about a mischievous monkey who stole items belonging to other animals and people. For example, for number two, there is a fun rhyme about a dog hiding his two bones with a picture illustrating the dog's actions. The next picture shows the dog looking into the hole where he'd buried his bones and now it held two bananas instead of his bones. After the number ten, there is a picture showing all of the little monkey's loot. How everyone got their stolen items back would spoil the story. I had not anticipated the ending at all. Good story! Another reviewer mentioned maybe purchasing this book in paperback, and I might do that, too. This book is a keeper for sure, and is a new favorite! The book was formatted perfectly on my Kindle and Kindle apps. This book in Kindle format was available for free today, so thank you to the author!

Monkey Stuff A children rhyming counting book edition by Rebecca Bielawski Children eBooks Reviews

I thought that this was slightly weird, and after reading it had literally no desire to read it to my child.
This book is cute enough to be a good download for your kids, and the price is decent, but it's more on the average side--I would not purchase it in paperback. The rhymes in the book don't always flow very well, but the drawings are cute and the lesson at the end is good for kids to hear.
This book is so cute and I know children will love learning how to count and read with it. I think they will like the story about the silly monkey that plays the day away with all the animals. I recommend this book for children who can't count or read yet as well as those that can. Thank you for this fun read.
My son (4) enjoyed this book. My only complaint is that on the last number, before the lion gets his hair cut, there are not 10 definite strands of hair to count. On the other pages we would count whatever it is before the monkey takes it, but that's not possible with the lion. It's a small complaint, thought, because after the hair is cut we can count the hairs.

This book teaches counting from 1 to 10 while also telling the story of a sneaky monkey who steals things ... and eventually gives everything back because his mom told him to.

The illustrations are cute. They are a combination of hand drawn artwork and photos. The bright blocks of solid color are perfect for kids.

I thought some of the rhymes were a bit forced at times and I was not thrilled with the possibility of teaching kids how to steal so I was thankful for the ending. I think kids will really like the monkey's silliness. However with my adult logic I'm still trying to figure out how the monkey stole horseshoes off of a horse...

Monkey Stuff is without a doubt one of the most charming little picture books I have ever read. Not only is it educational (it teaches the numbers 1-10), but the rhymes are catchy and clever, the pictures are cute and colorful, the story is delightfully mischievous, and the humorous little twist at the end is simply adorable.

My only two qualms about the book were the size of the pictures in the ebook format, which may be difficult for children to read (My sister and I were able to read it fine, but I don't have any children on hand, so I can't test it out on them), and the uncommon sentence structure used to make the sentences rhyme, which might be difficult for very young children to understand.

Overall, Monkey Stuff is a delightful read, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys picture books, especially mothers and teachers with young children/students.

On a related note, kudos to the author for making a Spanish and English version!

"Monkey Stuff" by Rebecca Bielawski isn't just another one-to-ten counting book. It is quite well illustrated, actually has something of a plot, and in addition to teaching counting from one to ten, it has a side benefit of teaching forgiveness.

This book doesn't just show X-many red balls or yellow triangles on a page, with a number above them. In fact, it is in the form of a story, in which a different animal or character is introduced on each page, along with some item it owns, with the number of items being the next sequential cardinal number. The text is also done in a clever rhyme which does not feel at all contrived.

On each page, the mischevious little monkey steals the items from the owner. All through the book this continues, until the very end, when the little monkey returns everybody's property. Whether he does this out of guilt or because his mother made him is left to the imagination, but the main point is that all the animals forgive the little monkey after he returns their property.

This is one of the better counting tools I've seen. I strongly recommend it as an addition to the library of any youngster learning to count.
